Reflection - 2020

This year, a lot of things have happened because of Covid 19. So it stopped us from learning.

Challenges

This year was hard because of covid - 19. All of the people have to stay home so they can save lives and stay safe at home. So then there was a lockdown. Since lockdown happened, it kind of stopped my learning but luckily we had online learning. It was also challenging because some students in class DON’T do any work that has been given to them!.

My Favourite thing that I have learnt:

At school I like to play sports, but I like to do learning more than playing sports or games. I like learning new TOPICS for each subject. My favourite subject is Reading and Inquiry. I like Reading because when I read new and interesting books, I learn more meanings of hard words. Reading helps me to understand more about what the story is talking about. I like Inquiry because I

become so CREATIVE with my projects, I also like it because it includes a lot of information about the work that I am focusing on!

My favourite/new things that I have learned this year:

This year Mrs Tafea was teaching Rm 7 and what we have learnt was lot’s of new things in the year 2020. I was learning about Body Parts, BEDMAS/ Order of Operations, human organs and their functions, also the eleven organ systems plus the eight major systems.

Highlights:

My highlights for the year 2020 is to help others and to reach my goals everytime i come to school or in class so i would like to achieve my goals everyday.

Writing

On Saturday morning we got up really early and watched cartoons on T.V.There was this really funny bit on “What Now” , when

Mike tipped a bottle of milk over Tina’s head. I pretended to tip a bottle of milk over Sam’s head, but he didn’t laugh. At nine o’clock Mum got up , we got told off for making a mess in the lounge. It wasn’t even that messy , there were just a few cushions and some Lego on the floor. There was some milk on the floor too, but hardly any. Mum said we had to clean everything up. I ended up cleaning most of it up myself. Sam just pretended to help.

Then we went to swimming lessons. I am in the Shark’s group and Sam is in the Tadpoles. I am the best at backstroke in our group. My swimming teacher said I might be able to go in the inter-club swimming competition.

After swimming we went to Mcdonald’s for lunch. Yum! I had a Big Mac Combo and Sam had a Cheeseburger Combo. We got some stickers with our meals , Mum had a coffee. She doesn’t like Mcdonald’s food that much.

When we got home,Sam and I made a hut in the basement under our house. We got some old furniture and set it up,it looked really good, but it was quite dark.

We had macaroni cheese for tea.I hate macaroni cheese. I call it macaroni slime,Mum said I didn’t have to eat it all,but I had to eat some.I ate a tiny bit,but then I ate lots of ice- cream for pudding, so I wasn’t hungry at all.

Writing a recipe about our favourite food

Today, room 7 were learning about how to write a instructional writing about our favourite food to eat. The recipe I wrote about is a samoan food that you can have for tea or lunch or dinner. This food is called "Koko aleisa". Writing a instructional writing should include a Title ( first thing you should have for your writing), method, ingredients and materials, verbs and more. Koko aleisa mean rice pudding or coco rice. I hope you enjoyed making this recipe.
How to make coco rice / rice pudding

Materials
  • 5 small cup of rice (Aleisa)
  • 6 small full cup of sugar (suta)
  • Cups of water (how many u want) vai
  • Half of the small samoa coco (ToTo)
  • 5 tea leaves (Lau ti), (Big leaves)

Instructions
  1.  First, use a small pot to measure the
rice with the cold water. Wait for a while until
the rice gets cooked or when the water is gone.
Mea muamua, faoga o se ulo leikiki e fua
ai o le aleisa ma le vai. Faakali sei vela o
le aleisa.

  1. Pour the rice in a larger pot to make a
huge rice pudding.
Ku’u i kokogu o le aleisa i se ulo lapo’a
e fai ai o le koko aleisa.

  1. Put in half of the samoan coco , stir to
split the coco apart. If you don’t have any
saoman coco then you might find it at the
supermarket.

then put in more sugar until it is sweet
enough for your yourself ).

  1. Grab 5 big tea leaves and throw it in the pot.
Kau mai gi laumoli ae kogi i kokogu o le ulo.

  1. Mix everything that is in the pot. You will
end up with a very delicious smell, it will
also look black or brown because of the
colour from the coco.
Mix uma mea uma lae kokogu o le ulo.
A kakala o le kapugi o le ulo, e lagu ululi.
O le koko e ululi.

Warning!
DO NOT EAT THE TEA LEAVES IN THE POT!!

Voucabulary

Doing this activity before reading a text helps me identify or find the meaning of the challenging words so I can be able to read for meaning.
With this activity, my definition is mostly blank because I don't know the words so I used the dictionary to find the meaning.

This week for reading we are learning to infer by using clues from the photo and what we know to form a simple idea or prediction.

My Dream.

These are the message from the song "Follow your dream" by Sheryn Regis encourage me to follow my dream no matter what other people think or say.
I want to follow my dream and become a office administrator.

Venn diagram

We have learnt a lot from Aroha's way and from "Follow Your Dream " that we can not give up or give in to all the negative comments it that people say about us.
We need to always try our best, never give up on what you know is right.
We need to be courage and talk to people that we trust.

Text a and Text B activity

Text A
It’s a clear Auckland  night. The grass is  wet and spongy.
Everything’s still. A young  boy creeps outside,
lies on his back , and searches the sky. Staring at the moon
He dreams of flying into space.

Fast-forward thirty years to  Houston, Texas. Mana Vautier says goodbye
to his family and heads to work. As an aerospace engineer at NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration), he is living his dream.
NASA is the largest space agency in the word. It was set up by the United States government to explore space and learn about the universe.
Born in  Auckland and of Te Arawa, Ngāi Tahu, Ngāti Kahungunu, and Ngāti Raukawa descent , Mana always knew he wanted to explore space. But how did a star-gazing boy from Auckland end up working for NASA?
For as long as I can remember, I’ve loved staring at the night sky.
I’ve always wanted to study it and hopefully one day explore it.
I always knew I wanted to work in human space flight, but I had no idea how to make it happen. Luckily , I was brought up in a family that  taught me to believe I could do anything I put my mind to. In 2006, I was accepted into a university in Alabama in the United States to study aerospace engineering. While studying, I heard about a summer job with NASA in Houston. Houston is where the  United States astronauts are trained , so I knew I had to apply. I got the job and eventually became a full-time employee
